This document includes 4 generations of descendants of Curtis and Lucinda (Bayliss) Durden. The details of how Curtis and Lucinda met is unknown. I assume they met in Greenwood, Louisiana after Lucinda's family moved to the area.
Curtis Durden was born about 1847 in Greenwood, Caddo, Louisiana, USA. He was the son of Moore Durden and 1st Wife LNU. Curtis died in the state penitentiary in Louisiana, USA, in 1900 at the age of 53.
Curtis married Lucinda Bayliss in 1866 in Greenwood, Caddo, Louisiana, USA. Lucinda was born in Georgia, USA, in May 1840. Lucinda reached 77 years of age and died in Greenwood, Caddo, Louisiana, USA, on September 2, 1917. She was the daughter of Amos Bayliss and Adaline LNU.
They had twelve children: Ophelia (ca.1866–), James (1872–1964), Robert (1873–), Curtis (1875–), Derry (1878–1957), C (1883–1933), Dennis (1883–1964), Luther (1885–), Alvin (1886–), Olivia (1887–), Lucinda (1890–) and William (1894–ca.1972).
On Sep 10, 1894, Curtis Durden was jailed and charged with murder of Stokes Watters or Walton. The reason is unknown at this time, but this began a legacy of murders and hatred of the name Durden in Greenwood, Louisiana.
